I've decided to try my hand at creative writing, here's my first short short story, the inspiration came from something i read about 10 skeletons being discovered underneath Ben Franklin's London home.

"The Others"

An erection faded under the halo of a semen stain residing in the

innards of Ben Franklin's pantaloons.

Chunky bits of excrement trickled down the backs of his legs as he

picked himself up off the wet grass,

gathered his smoldering belongings and triumphantly promenaded back to

his house.

As he entered the small child strapped to the table let out a series

of stifled peeps, her voice,

muffled by a length of cow intestine, was little more audible than the

squeak of a tit mouse

and was soon shrouded by the buckling of Franklin's wooden chair as he sat,

dropping the key onto his desk.

They stared silently at one another, her vision distorted by

teardrops, his enhanced by spectacles, the future was waiting.

Franklin rose and negotiated his girth across the room towards the child,

plucking a drill from his pocket he gently pierced the skin of her

forehead with the tip and began to crank.

Her eyes twisted in all directions as the skull gave way and the stiff

metallic drill penetrated the soft pink brain tissue.

The shards of what was once a looking glass tore through her memories,

erasing all, as though she had never existed.

After he had finished dissecting the child, Franklin, stepping back

outside to wash the splitter splatters of blood off his garb,

found himself stuck in a state of almost inescapable awe at the sight

of the lightning storm that still graced this virginal horizon.

He would bury her underneath his house, just as he had done with the others.

The Art Of Tape Dropping...

"tape dropping is the exciting art of abandoning cassettes of homemade music in public places"

i was first introduced to tape dropping while listening to english musician, instrument builder and composer dan wilson's amazing radio shows the exciting hellebore shew and epistaxis time, anyone with some free time and a love for good radio should click on the links and check out the archives of these two fabulous shows. for those looking to learn more about tape dropping should check out the episode "audio flyering special" from the hellebore series.

as for me, i started tape dropping tapes of my own music around town, although i suspect these days no one has tape players to play them on. i followed one woman down a few streets, as she walked in to her house i threw a tape on her porch and ran away. i went back 6 months later and the tape was still sitting on her porch.

i have been more successful manipulating the video/audio of vhs movies and leaving them on the free table of the junk store i live above. some examples have been shrinking the entire movie to just 2 inches in size right after the movie informs you that it has been adjusted to fit your screen, inserting some of my own music into the soundtrack, lowering the pitch of voices on cheap religious movies to give the impression that the tape is haunted by demons, or even just permanently freezing the image right before the climax of a 3 hour epic.

Lets Talk Erase Heads...

before passing over the record head, a tape in a recorder passes over the erase head which applies a high amplitude, high frequency AC magnetic field to the tape to erase any previously recorded signal and to thoroughly randomize the magnetization of the magnetic emulsion. typically, the tape passes over the erase head immediately before passing over the record head.

i like to remove the erase head from portable tape recorders which allows for overdubbing.
however with this technique you cannot hear the music that being recorded over as you record, you cannot mix or adjust volumes of individual dubs and you cannot erase. the sounds will become more compressed and sometimes quieter the more audio you dubs you add in limited space of music. i've also noticed stereo anomalies that i can't really explain, but i have learn that slightly hold fast forward can create a warbling effect that when recording will sometimes shift the sound to the right side of the stereo only. it's probably important to remember that when recording with a four or eight track each "track" is separated to its own area on the tape, where as with an eraser headless portable tape recorder the dubs are all being recorded undivided on the entire space of tape.

Fritz Pfleumer, the man who invented magnetic tape.

I want a pair of those glasses. Pfleumer had developed a process for putting metal stripes on cigarette papers, and reasoned that he could similarly coat a magnetic stripe, to be used as an alternative to wire recording. In 1927, after experimenting with various materials, Pfleumer used very thin paper which he coated with iron oxide powder using lacquer as glue. He received a patent in 1928. On 1 December 1932 Pfleumer granted the right of use to the AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft (literally General Electricity Company)) that based on his invention built the world's first practical tape recorder called Magnetophon K1.

Another Cool Gizmo

say hello to the split-cam. I've seen these at novelty/vintage type stores for around $12. they use 35mm film and allow you to multiple expose and have lens blocking sliders that allow for exposing the top and bottom half separately. here some example photos that come with the package.

A Cool Toy That Everybody Should Own

say hello to the Eyeclops Bionicam, i recently picked one of these bad boys up at toys r us (for only $20).

its a fucking video microscope!! it has a LCD screen, 3 lenses for 100x 200x and 400x zoom, and a USB memory card that plugs right in to a computer.

in my first experience editing video with a computer, ever, i made some short microscopic movies using the shitty windows editing program that came with the crappy used laptop i bought.
